  • Wonderful ancient thermal pool (Pamukkale, Turkey)

It's worth the long bus journey to visit Pamukkale & the ancient Roman city of Hierapolis next to it. This was a major tourist site of the Roman Empire. Yes, tourism was a big deal back then too! Hierapolis was a major spa resort with a theater of 15,000 seats! They didn't build it just for the locals. Bring your swim suit as you can still enjoy the baths of Hierapolis today. They have tables & refreshments with changing rooms next to the baths. In summer 2008 it costs $20.00 per person to enter the baths and it's worth it to preserve such a wonderful site. My wife took off her shoes & walked all the way down Pamukkale & back. I spent my time looking at Hierapolis. We met at the baths & enjoyed soaking in the warm hot spring water. We've seen a few sites in Turkey & enjoyed this one very much!

    1. This place is amazing. I have been there three times and it still amazes me. There’s nothing like this in other countries, so Pamukkale is quite unique. There is also an ancient city called Hierapolis at the top of Pamukkale, which is also stunning. And 15 minutes from Pamukkale there’s a natural thermal hot spring in Karahayit, which is also nice to see. So If you guys have the opportunity, you should really visit Denizli (town) in Turkey. You will be stunned by the natural beauty of this city.

A beautiful video of Pamukkale http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR6guX5yzHQ&feature=share&list=PLc07RnA7sWckig6moMN0CqXH_0VpZCriP
