The Largest Fort in India - Chittorgarh Fort

Located several kilometers south of Bhilwara in the Indian state of Rajasthan, Chittorgarh is the largest fort in India. It is one of the most beautiful one of the strongest in the country and possibly the largest in the state of Rajasthan. The strength, clarity known as Chittor, spread majestically over an area of 692 hectares on the top of a hill 180 meters high.

Chittorgarh Fort, considered the greatest strength of India in terms of area, was constructed by the Mauryans during the seventh century AD. The fort was named after Chitrangada Mori Maurya ruler. It was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Mewar in 834 years. The fort was captured by Emperor Akbar in 1567 and therefore was abandoned in 1568.

The historic fort of Chittorgarh is dotted with a number of historical palaces, gates, temples and two towers commemorative prominent. These monumental ruins have been a popular destination and has inspired the imagination of tourists for centuries. Chittorgarh Fort is the quintessence of tribute to the nationalism, courage, medieval chivalry and sacrifice exhibited by the Mewar rulers of Sisodia and their relatives, women and children.
