The Blue Ice of the Perito Moreno Glacier
The Perito Moreno Glacier is a glacier located in the Los Glaciares National Park in southwest Santa Cruz province, Argentina. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentine Patagonia.
The 250 km2 ice formation, and 30 km in length, is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes system shared with Chile. This ice field is the world's third largest reserve of fresh water.
The Perito Moreno glacier, located 78 kilometres from El Calafate, was named after the explorer Francisco Moreno, a pioneer who studied the region in the 19th century and played a major role in defending the territory of Argentina in the conflict surrounding the international border dispute with Chile.
Amazing blue ice of Perito Moreno Glacier is 50 metres in height, it is stretched for four miles long through the whole lake. This 30,000 years old glacier is located at the National Park of Los Glaciares in the province of Santa Cruz, Argentina.
Glacier was named after the explorer Francisco Moreno, who had first explored this region in the 19th century and played an important role in protecting the territory interests of Argentina in a border dispute with Chile. The Glacier Perito Moreno is 5 kilometres wide, with a average height of 74 metres above the surfaces of lake Lago Argentino, which is located at western part of Argentina. The average depth of ice is 170 metres (558 ft) and maximum 700 metres.
