In the last years of XIX century the population of Berlin has increased dramatically. And the problem of accommodating people was becoming a real issue for the Government. By 1898 the German Insurance Institute of the population has built a sanatorium for tuberculosis victims. Beelitz-Heilstatten gradually expanded and operated for decades, taking under its wing many notorious patients, including Adolf Hitler. But now the sanatorium is abandoned and would be an excellent backdrop for filming horror movies.
